Thank you for making Capitol Day a HUGE Success!

In the current reality of virtual events, uncontrollable schedule changes, and other completely unexpected challenges, Mississippi’s early childhood community was still able to join together to learn about the upcoming legislation that will impact children and make plans to move forward together.

The second annual (but first virtual) Capitol Day had over 130 attendees from all across the state, from private childcare providers, Head start centers, statewide advocacy organizations, and community-based early childhood nonprofits. After hearing from the Graduate Center for the Study of Early Learning, The Mississippi chapters of Parents for Public Schools and Mississippi First about legislative priorities, and getting a legislative briefing from Elliott Flaggs MELA’s partner at Cornerstone Government Affairs the group had an opportunity to engage in small geographic groups about the issues that mattered most to them, and the highlights from those conversations will be shared with their local legislators.

We are grateful to Senator John Horhn of District 26 and Representative Kent Mccarty of District 101 for joining us for Capitol Day and to Senator Bryce Wiggins, Representative John Hines, and Senator Dennis Debar, Jr. for popping in to say hello via chat!
